Device Administrator Enrollment Requiered for Teams Android Authentication | Teams Android-based Systems Cannot Login

Hello, Everyone!! 👀 This will be a short blog post, but I just wanna make you aware of this new requirement. The rules have changed for MTRoA deployments, now we must turn on Device Admin Enrollment in Intune.

In case you don't know where we can turn it on, or you haven't used Intune (Endpoint Manager), don't worry, this blog post will help you get by.

Why is this crucial?

A couple of days ago, I was helping a service provider deploying their MTRoA, and guess what? Teams rooms were unable to login!! Also, some MTRoA was showing the very well-known "Couldn't Connect to Workplace Join. Try again, or contact your admin" message, so, what else can I say? haha this is quite important. In other word, make sure this is enabled when your Teams Android-based Systems (Panels, Phones, Rooms, etc.) cannot login.

In addition, as you may know, Microsoft is ending support for Android device administrator management on devices with access to GMS (Google Mobile Services) on August 30, 2024. I recommend switching to another Android management option in Intune , before support ends as well as Microsoft. However, I know that companies need to take time to make decisions and stuff, therefore, your company might continue having users enroll their device with Device administrator management, so if that applies to you and your company, set up device admin enrollment!

Setting up Device Admin Enrollment

First of all, go to admin.microsoft.com and sign in with your admin account, you will find Endpoint Manager (Intune) under Admin Center, click on it.

Microsoft 365

Select Devices -> Android

Teams Rooms unable to login

Click on Android Enrollment, and scroll down til you find Android Device Administrator and click on Personal and corporate-owned devices with device administration privileges button.

Immediately you will see the following:

 Android Enrollment

Just make sure that Use device administrator to manage devices box is checked and click on Ok button, if needed.

Note: I already checked it, that's why the last pic looks like that.

Checking out Company Agent

Check out company portal agent that is run by your Teams System, if your system is running 5.0.5954.0, this is mandatory and you will need to ensure that the android enrollment is on. For instance, let's check the company portal version that my MTRoA is running, select More.

Select Settings -> Device Settings -> About.

There it is! If Android enrollment wasn't on, my system would be unable to login.

That's all for today! Feel free to reach out, if you have any questions, and don't forget to follow me on social media.
