Too many people have asked me about this topic, specially people who work for distributors, and Service Providers, and to be honest, it's not that difficult, but I'm aware it's not intuitive as it is with other poly phones.
Today I'm gonna walk you through this not that intuitive upgrading process haha 🙊😆
First, there are two ways to upgrade your rove system:
- Poly Hosted Server
- Download software version and upload it to your phone
For me, the first option is the most reliable and easier one, but I am aware knowing both options is essential.
1st Method: Poly Hosted Server
Open your browser and go to your Poly Rove Base's IP Address.
Note: Default username and password are "admin".
Note: In order to upgrade your base, handsets and repeaters, all of them must be paired to your primary base.
Now navigate to System Management -> Auto Provisioning
Under Auto firmware update menu, clear the following check boxes:
- Firmware Server
- Firmware Path
- Method
- Interval
Fill out those fields with the following parameters:
- Firmware Server: http://downloads.poly.com
- Firmware Path: /voice/dect-ip-phones/Rove/
- Method: It depends on how you would like to perform this update.
- Periodically: Clear check box in default column for interval and set a time in seconds.
- System Start: The one I usually use
- Time of day: Clear check box in default column for TimeofDay and enter at what time your poly rove will search for updates (in hh:mm:rr format).
- Interval: 30 (becase I am using periodically method in this example)
Note: You can set another method, in the example above, Poly Rove will periodically try to connect to Poly Server every 30 seconds and download software and update any handset, or repeater once connected to the base. So please select the method that works for you, i usually prefer "System Start" btw.
Under Firmware Versions and hanset images menu, clear all the check boxes that are related to "Fw Version" and "FwBranch", for instance the following:
- BaseFwVersion
- BaseFwBranch
- Rove20FwVersion
- Rove20BranchVersion
I didn't list all of those fields as there are too many 👀😅 ok, ok, don't think i am that lazy haha clear the following ones:
- BaseFwVersion
- BranchFwBranch
- Rove20FwVersion
- Rove20BranchVersion
- Rove30FwVersion
- RoveB30branchVersion
- Rove40FwVersion
- Rove40branchVersion
- RoveR8FwVersion
- RoveR8BranchVersion
Now, fill out the black as mentioned below:
- BaseFWVersion: 8010
- BranchFWBranch: 0002
- Rove20FwVersion: 8010
- Rove20BranchVersion: 0002
- Rove30FwVersion: 8010
- RoveB30branchVersion: 0002
- Rove40FwVersion: 8010
- Rove40branchVersion: 0002
- RoveR8FwVersion: 8010
- RoveR8BranchVersion: 0002
After typing in versions, click on Submit.
The previous parameters will update your system to the latest poly voice version as of today, Jan 28 2026.
In the future, you can always take a look at HP Support (click here) to know the current versions that are available to know what parameter you can type in in those fields.
Alright, now your system is being upgraded to 8.0.12 poly voice version, take a look at this proof:
After one hour and a couple of minutes, it's up to date!!! Siiiiu!
Keep in mind this process takes time, imagine it took more than one hour and I only had one handset haha of course it depends on your internet, but just take it easy, and wait. 😀
2nd Method: HP Support Site
You know I like being honest with y'all, right? So i have read on other communities that people weren't able to update their rove when downloading software from HP support web page, I'm gonna try it now for the first time, let's see if it works.
Go to HP Support website and select the solution you would like to upgrade.
In this example, I am gonna upgrade a poly rove B1 Base Station which is running 8.0.10 (0002 build) version.
Looks like my Base is up to date, however, we can still test this process. If it doesn't work, an issue will pop up.
Note: Only if your Cell (bases, repeaters, handsets) is running 8.0.7 or later, this can be used to upgrade your Poly Rove Cell, if your cell is running an older version, it won't work.
Click on Software and drivers
Select Poly Voice -> Submit
And finally, download the software you need.
A ZIP file will be saved, please extract all ll the files.
After extracting all, the software of certain rove models will be listed.
Go to your Base station's IP address and open WUI.
Note: Default username and password are "admin".
Navigate to System Management -> Device Maintenance
Under firmware update, click on Browse.
Choose the right package for the devices you would like to upgrade. Keep in mind that unloading a base station firmware will update only the base stations, in other words, if you use firmware package for handsets, only handset will be updated.
Note: The device will automatically detect the model based on the firmware.
Now, click on update.
A new window will pop up asking you for clicking OK, just click on it.
And a new windows will pop up saying update has started.
Now it's time to wait, and it looks like it worked well.
As I said earlier, if your Cell is running older version than 8.0.7, this process is not for you and it won't work. For instance I got this Rove B4 Base running 8.0.2 and firmware update menu is not even shown on web interface!!!
I would say people who said it didn't work for them prolly they upload the zip file? Idk but maybe that's what happened to them. Now i can confidently say this process works well 👌
