Today, I'm gonna answer one of the most important questions I've heard in the field which is "HOW TO SET UP A MICROSOFT TEAMS ROOMS ON ANDROID?".
Sales people always think that setting up a Yealink Microsoft teams room system and one HP Microsoft Teams Rooms system would be different, but that's not actually accurate, let me break it down.
There are different companies, such as HP, Logitech, Yealink, etc., that deliver and manufacture these kind of devices, but don't think this guide will only work for a specific OEM, a Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android device is made and developed by these different companies and you can set it up in the same way bc all of those systems are running Teams App which is developed by Microsoft!! That means, you will find similar or even the same settings within that Teams App. Available settings depend on Teams App version a system is running, so they might vary a little bit.
Regarding setting up system features, such as echo cancellation, noise reduction, CEC protocol, wifi and so on, well those features are managed and set usually through these devices Web User Interface and/or the Cloud, so those settings are configured differently, but in this blog post i am talking about only Teams Rooms Settings which are in the same Teams App that all system have installed.
This blog post focuses on the following topics:
- Requirements
- Signing in
- Setting up Teams Rooms Device
- Via Local device settings on Teams App
- Via Configuration Profile on Microsoft Teams Admin Center
- My opinion :P
Requirements
First, keep in mind that you must meet the following requirements:
- A Microsoft Teams Rooms License must be assigned to one resource account. It can be Pro or basic license, but keep it mind there are too many differences, check out this link to choose the right one for your room.
- A resource Account should be assigned to ONLY ONE Microsoft Teams Rooms system.
- Know resource account's password and address.
- 3rd party meetings must be enabled to join |Zoom and Webex meetings through DGJ (to enable it learn more here)
- Calling Plan if needed
- Firewall settings must be configured as noted at Office 365 URLs and IP address ranges in Microsoft Teams section.
- Meet bandwidth requirements for Microsoft Teams Room as mentioned on Microsoft Learn.
- Have a mouse and one keyboard
- Microsoft Teams Rooms System certified by Microsoft
- AOSP deployed and ready. Find more information about AOSP and how to set i up on this blog post . ✌
As per as Microsoft, If you want to log into more than one Teams Rooms system in a room using the same resource account, you need to use a Teams Rooms Pro license. However, I don't recommend doing so, only use one account to log into one Teams Rooms System.
If you're not sure what license you may need, Teams Rooms Basic or Pro, I highly recommend you choosing Pro because of the following features:
- Split gallery across 2 screens
- Speaker identification (only MTRoW as of today)
- Front Row
- Whiteboard
- Multi camara
- Large Gallery
- Room check
- PSTN Calling (requires calling plan)
- SIP/H.323 Video calls (only MTRoW as of today, i heard it will be available on MTRoA soon, people said Q2FY2026 🫢👀)
- Pro Management
Signing in
First thing first, after turning on your Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android, sign in screen will be shown on your TV/Monitor and your touch controller. Be careful, there will be a code for your MTRoA (video-bar) and another one for your touch controller, i mean, there will be two different codes to sign in.
Note: I'm aware some OEM already delivered a "Direct connect pairing" and now customer only have a single level of App pairing with no need for touch controller to connect to Microsoft Cloud, in other words, now only video-bar code are the one that connect to Microsoft Cloud and we use to sign in, and there's no need to sign into the account twice. However, most of OEM still need to sign into the account twice, one time for touch controller and another time for video-bar/codec.
| Videobar's code |
| Touch Controller's code |
You can select "sign in on this device" to type in resource account address and password, but opening device login web page is easier for me, so go to https://microsoft.com/devicelogin and type in the code that is shown on your TV/Monitor screen and your touch controller's code.
Notre: First, type in your video-bar's code, the one shown on main screen.
Select, next -> your teams rooms account (you might need to type in your resource account email address and its password)
Click on Sign in -> Continue
Now, follow the same steps to sign in on your touch controller.
Note: As I said earlier, if the OEM that developed the Microsoft Teams Rooms system you're setting up launched Direct connect pairing, then you only need to sign in on your video-bar/codec.Additionally, if your teams rooms system is connected to one touch screen and there is no controller, you only need to sign in on your video-bar/codec.
After sign in on your controller, the video system name will be shown on touch controller, you only need to select it and it will be all set. For instance, I have one Studio X32 named KUrena HO, and that's the name Teams App is showing me on my Touch Controller.
Note: If the teams rooms system's name isn't shown on TC screen, please make sure you sign in with the same account in both, Teams rooms system and touch controller. Also, ensure your AV system and the TC are on the same VLAN.
All set!!!

After signing into the systems, and before joining any meetings, please upgrade your MTRoA to the latest available version through Teams Admin Center, Web UI, manufacture's Cloud solution or a custom server. I highly recommend you upgrade your teams rooms system through Teams Admin Center as Microsoft Teams is the platform we are using and Microsoft will only provide supported software.
I asked you for doing updating since We're making sure your system will support all the features provided by Microsoft and the manufacturer.
Now, we already upgraded our systems, and they're ready to host meetings and join them. However, please make sure you followed the step-by-step guide listed on requirements section to be able to join 3rd party meetings such as Zoom and Webex. if you didn't, please take a look at this link.
Setting up Teams Rooms Device
1st Method: Touch Controller
If you don{t have access to Microsoft Teams Admin Center, this is the best option for you, even tho, it's challenging if you have more than 5 teams rooms devices. If you have access to TAC, go to the next chapter to set your teams rooms devices up.
Click on More (three dots) -> Settings -> Device Settings
Select Admin Settings.
Type in your video-bar's admin user and password (don't type in the resource account and its password, it won't work). For instance, I said i am using one Studio X32, right? So default password would be the last six characters of Studio X's serial number and default admin user would be admin, so I would type in that info.
For instance, I said i am using one Studio X32, right? So default password would be the last six characters of Studio X's serial number and default admin user would be admin, so I would type in that info. If you change credentials, use the new ones.
Select Bluetooth
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
Go back to admin settings, select Teams Admin Settings.
General
Now, select General
Toggle on dual display if your video system is connected to 2 screens/monitors.
Scroll down and disable "turn on daily maintenance window"
Get back to the top, click on Background to change background (funny bc it's kinda obvious lol)
Choose the theme you prefer and click on the arrow to change it and get back to main menu.
If you would like to set up a custom background, take a look at this blog post, i shared a step by step guide time ago.
Meetings
Select Meetings
Make sure the following settings are enabled
- Show meeting names
- Enable people count
- Max room occupancy notification
- Show chat bubbles
- Show meeting chat
- Extend room reservation
- Allow room to initiate Whiteboard
- Enable HDMI content sharing
- Include audio
- Automatically share to the room display
:)
Scroll down and you will see default stage layout, talk to your employees, IT Admin or... idk, your best friend? Just choose the best one for your organization.
I like front row as I can see everything, so i will choose that one, raised hands and chat will be shown on the left and on right, respectively.
Note: I like front row, buuut if you only have one screen, don't set front row as default haha it looks sooooo weird and ugly hahaha seriously, I would say front row was made for being split across two screens.
Last but not least, toggle on Cisco Webex and Zoom.
Now, your system will be able to join zoom meetings with ID meeting, this feature is not available with Webex meetings as of today, even tho, you only need to send the webex meeting to your Teams Rooms system and it will be able to join. However, keep in mind that your resource account must be set as I mentioned on this blog post.
Devices
Select Devices
Click on Room camera
Now, choose the best camera tracking for your room. It will be the default camera tracking whenever you join a meeting, so choose one wisely.
I don't have any content camera 💔 so i cannot talk about it.
Recognition
Select Recognition
As you can see above, microsoft recommends us choose "Configure with device settings", so you can choose it and Voice recognition will be enabled.
This setting is that important, as your company might not allow it, so before enabling it, talk to your HR director, IT admin, and the team that manages those topics.
On the other hand, as of today, only voice recognition is supported on Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android, check this link out, and you will find all the information about it over there.
2nd Method: Microsoft Teams Admin Center
Go to Teams Admin Center (https://admin.teams.microsoft.com) and sign in with your admin account.
Note: Before setting things up, at the bottom of the post, i left my honest opinion about this method. I am kinda sure you might get disappointed.
Click on Teams Devices -> Teams Rooms on Android
Click on Configuration profiles -> Add
Type in a name and one description
General Settings
Enable the following settings/set the following parameters:
- Enable HDMI Content Sharing: Set it to on
- Toggle "include audio" and "automatically share to room" on
- Language: Set language to your preferred language
- Timezone: Set it to your local zone
- Maintenance window: Set it to preferred hours, this is kinda important as TAC will update your device during this windows and of course, it also depends on your policies.
- Enable touch screen controls: set it to on, only if you have a touch screen monitor connected to your Teams Rooms System.
- Dual display mode: set it to on, only if you teams rooms system is connected to 2 different displays, if your system is connected to only one, set it to off.
- Logs and feedback: If you would like to get feedback and reports from in-site employees, type in an email address so whenever they report something, that info will be delivered to that certain email.
:)
Meeting settings
Enable the following settings/set the following parameters:
- Maximum room occupancy notification: Set it to on, if you would like your on-site employees to get notified whenever there's too much people in a certain room. Some people have told me they liked it, and other ones have said they don't like it at all, so it's up to you 😏
- Allow room reservation extension: Set it to on
- Allow room to use Microsoft Whiteboard: Set it to on
- Third party meetings: Toggle them on
- Enable Cisco Webex and Zoom
- Live captions: Not a big fan bc i get distracted by captions haha but set it to on if it's a requested feature by employees.
Device settings
- Background: Choose the background you like, if you would like to set up a custom background, please read this blog post about it that I made time ago.
- Bluetooth beaconing: Set it to on
- Enable "Automatically accept proximity based meeting invitations" and "remote control from personal devices"
- Show room QR Code: Set it to on
:)
Finally, click on "Review changes" at the bottom of the page.
Now, review your settings carefully and select "Save changes"
Applying configuration profile
Get back to Teams Rooms on Android Menu.
Hover over your room, and an arrow will be shown, click on it.
Now select "Assign configuration"
Select the configuration profile you just created and click on Apply
After that, you can even check what configuration profile is applied to your rooms by scrolling right.
My opinion
Not gonna lie, my honest opinion might not like it but it is what it is, right? After applying this configuration profile to my room, I noticed there are certain settings that aren't even listed on Teams Admin Center, but those settings exist in the menu on touch controllers, so disappointing, right? On the other hand, i noticed a few settings weren't even applied to my rooms, so be aware that certain settings aren't even supported by some OEM devices.
Not all device settings are exposed via configuration profiles on Teams Admin Center, and Microsoft hasn't posted any official information about supported settings by Teams Rooms on Android. Let me know if you would like to see a list of supported settings and I can set aside time to test it 😉👀
